تخرج حسين ثابت (القاهرة، مصر، 1974) في جامعة عين شمس بالقاهرة، وحصل على بكالوريوس العلوم في علم الوراثة (1997)، ثم ماجستير العلوم في علم الوراثة الميكروبية (2002)، ودكتوراه الفلسفة في علم الوراثة الجزيئية (2007). التحق بجامعة مصر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا (MUST) بمصر كمُعيد (2003)، ثم أستاذ مساعد (2007). وقد رُقي إلى أستاذ مشارك في علم الوراثة الجزيئية (2012)، وإلى أستاذ متفرغ في علم الوراثة اللاجينية للسرطان (2018).

تتركز اهتماماته البحثية في الأساس الوراثي/اللاجينى للسرطان المسبب للتسرطن، وتحرير الجينوم عبر تقنية CRISPR/Cas9، ودراسة الجينات المضادة للاستماتة وعلاقتها بتقدم سرطان الثدي، والتحقيق في مستويات مثيلة الحمض النووي التي تتحكم في التسرطن الناتج عن سرطان الثدي، ودراسة إعادة تشكيل الكروماتين كآليات رئيسية تؤدي إلى السرطان باستخدام فحوصات ChIP وغيرها. وقد نشر 28 مقالاً؛ معظمها في المجال الرئيسي لعلم الوراثة/اللاجينات السرطانية.

شغل منصب مدير وحدة أبحاث علم الوراثة اللاجينية للسرطان (CERU) في جامعة مصر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا (2015-2018)، حيث قاد فريقًا بحثيًا من طلاب الدراسات العليا.

وهو حاليًا انضم إلى معهد الأبحاث والاستشارات الطبية (IRMC) بجامعة الإمام عبد الرحمن بن فيصل، المملكة العربية السعودية، كأستاذ في علم الوراثة اللاجينية للسرطان.

لديه خلفية قوية في التعليم الجامعي والدراسات العليا (18 عامًا).

حضر أكثر من 25 مؤتمرًا دوليًا حول علم الوراثة اللاجينية في العديد من البلدان بما في ذلك فرنسا، إيطاليا، ألمانيا، المجر، إسبانيا، كندا، جنوب أفريقيا، تركيا، بالإضافة إلى ورش العمل التي عُقدت في نفس التخصص العلمي خلال الـ 12 عامًا الماضية.

قام بتوجيه والإشراف على 23 مرشحًا (17 ماجستير و 5 دكتوراه) في مختلف مجالات علم الوراثة (2011-2018).

شارك في أكثر من 40 ندوة ومؤتمر حيث كان المتحدث الرئيسي.

حضر أكثر من 50 ورشة عمل وندوة في مجالات مختلفة من علم الوراثة/اللاجينات (2008-2018).

شارك في تأسيس دراسات البكالوريوس والدراسات العليا في كلية التكنولوجيا الحيوية بجامعة مصر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا، حيث أصبح في عام 2014 وكيل الكلية لشؤون البيئة، وعضواً في مجلس المراجعة المؤسسية (IRB) (2013-2018)، ولجنة الدراسات العليا (2012-2018)، والشؤون الخارجية (2017-2018).

وهو عضو في أكثر من 15 جمعية دولية بما في ذلك جمعية EMS (كندا)، والجمعية العربية للتكنولوجيا الحيوية (الأردن)، والجمعية العربية للخلايا الجذعية (مصر)، وجمعية PEAMS (جنوب أفريقيا).

وهو عضو في هيئة التحرير في العديد من المجلات في مجال علم الوراثة/اللاجينات السرطانية في جميع أنحاء العالم.

عمل كمراجع في أكثر من 100 مقال جميعها في مجال علم الوراثة/اللاجينات السرطانية.

أصبح (2017) مستشارًا للأبحاث في مركز بهية لعلاج سرطان الثدي (أكبر مركز خيري لعلاج السرطان في الشرق الأوسط).

حصل على جائزة الدكتور مكرم مهنا للإبداع في البحث العلمي: دعوة علوم الحياة (2017). شارك في العديد من حملات التوعية بسرطان الثدي في مصر (2010-2018).

نشر/حرر/ترجم العديد من الكتب باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية؛ من هذه الكتب: سرطان الثدي من التشخيص إلى العلاج (2016)، البحث العلمي (2016)، التطور البشري (2018)، CRISPRizing Humans (2018)، العقل البيولوجي (2018)، تحرير الجينوم باستخدام CRISPR/Cas9 (2018)، وغيرها.

قدم أكثر من 1200 حلقة تلفزيونية في مجالات علمية متنوعة (2006-2016)
